1. Who we are
LaneSyncPilot (“we,” “us,” “our”) is an independent open-source project. LaneSyncPilot is a fork of openpilot and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by comma.ai or any vehicle manufacturer.
2. Software license
LaneSyncPilot device software is distributed under the MIT License, unless a specific component states otherwise. You may use, modify, and distribute the software subject to the MIT License terms and any applicable third-party licenses included in the repository.
Upstream openpilot remains subject to its own license. You are responsible for complying with both.
3. Driver assistance — important safety terms
LaneSyncPilot provides Level 2 driver assistance features (e.g., lane centering, adaptive cruise control). You acknowledge and agree that:
- LaneSyncPilot is not fully autonomous. You must remain attentive, keep hands on the wheel when required, and be ready to take over immediately at all times.
- You are solely responsible for the safe operation of your vehicle and compliance with all traffic laws.
- Features may disengage without warning. You must monitor system status and road conditions continuously.
- Compatibility with your vehicle does not guarantee performance in all weather, road, or traffic conditions.
- Modifying vehicle systems may affect warranties. Consult your manufacturer and applicable law (e.g., Magnuson-Moss in the U.S.) before installation.
4. Hardware
LaneSyncPilot is designed to run on supported comma devices (e.g., comma 3X, comma four) with vehicle-specific harnesses. We do not manufacture hardware. Hardware purchases, returns, and warranties are between you and the hardware vendor.
5. Companion application
If you use the LaneSyncPilot iOS app (App Store) or integrate the LaneSyncPilot Android SDK (“App”), you also agree to the following:
- Account. You are responsible for securing your account credentials and devices.
- Drive storage. Drives may upload temporarily to our servers. Unsaved videos and associated cloud data are permanently deleted after 7 days unless you tap Save within that window. Saved drives remain in your library at no additional charge, subject to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
- Downloads. You may download clips to your personal devices. You are responsible for local storage and lawful use of recordings.
- Sharing. If you share a drive link, you are responsible for who receives access. End-to-end encryption limits our ability to recover shared content if keys are lost.
- Prohibited use. You may not use the App to harass others, violate privacy laws, distribute illegal content, or attempt to circumvent security or rate limits.
6. Navigation and V2I
Navigation and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) features are provided for convenience. Map data, signal timing (SPaT), work-zone broadcasts, and speed advisories may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate. Always rely on your judgment and visual confirmation. V2I augments — but does not replace — the vision-based driving stack.
7. No warranty
THE SOFTWARE AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LANESYNCPILOT CONTRIBUTORS AND OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE OR APP, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) fifty U.S. dollars (USD $50).
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LaneSyncPilot contributors and operators from claims arising out of your use of the software, violation of these Terms, or violation of any law or third-party rights.
10. Open source and third parties
LaneSyncPilot incorporates open-source components and may interact with third-party services (maps, infrastructure broadcasts, app stores). Your use of those components is subject to their respective terms.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms. We will post the revised version with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes to the App may be notified in-app or by email where we have your address.
12. Termination
You may stop using LaneSyncPilot at any time. We may suspend or terminate App access if you violate these Terms or if required by law. Upon termination, your right to use the App ends; provisions that by nature should survive (disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity) survive.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory local consumer protections apply.
